Fresh fish, good Burgers, lots of tasty fried things and good choice of domestic and local beers served in their famous "Schooners" at very fair prices. Our waitress was efficient and friendly, yes they were busy and almost all the people in there the evening our group of 6 had dinner were locals. Nice breeze, view of the boats in surrounding marina and the water as the sun goes down. My kind of place, would return and recommend.

Harbor House is an open air restaurant located right off of Honokohau Small Boat Harbor. Stop by for lunch, only if you are not in a rush as they get busy and service slows down, or for an early dinner to relax as the sun goes down. It feels like a burger place to me and the "Big Island grass-fed beef" gets me every time. The burger can be a bit dry and under seasoned, maybe my cow was on a diet? You can guarantee yourself more flavor by ordering a teriyaki burger (assuming you don't mind the sweetness). I wouldn't normally want to mess with the flavor of the beef, but this beef sometimes needs it. I do like the grilled soft bun and the thick cut fries that come with the burger (or you could have a salad). Besides the burgers they have the standard (for Hawaii) pupus: poke, wings, fried calamari, edamame, etc. Entrees include fish and chips, pork chops, fried chicken, and a variety of hot sandwiches like the Philly cheese steak or teriyaki chicken. Kiddies will enjoy a root beer or coke float served in one of their frosty schooners, adults can get a well priced beer. The restaurant is group and family friendly, especially if you come off-peak, so sit back and relax.

Eh... best of the meal was the beer. Came here based on reviews and that was a mistake. Seriously, frozen cod fish n chips ( minus the chips btw). Food was uninspiring and bland. In Oregon, on the coast, we serve fresh (note that: FRESH) fish. Waitress was also uninspired. Friendly is not what I would call it. On the upside, the sunset was gorgeous! And we watched or snorkeling pics from our Go PRO. So, the empty parking lot was our first clue. That is the only clue we needed. Could have enjoyed A Mai Tai on the strip. So, not happy with the people who rated this place 4 & 5 stars.

Open restaurant overlooking the marina. Coming from the airport going to Kona/Kailua it's convenient and prices are fair. I've been here at least 10 times over the years and the food has been consistently ok (3 rating). Good service. Basic food, nothing fancy however it fills you up. Draft beers come in heavy cold schooners (I prefer a glass however that's a personal preference)

IThe guide books and other reference stuff on this place looked good and we were really in the mood for a really cold beer but this place was a disaster. We went in and finally found table next to a five or eight person table that was filled by obviously a bunch of locals. In fact most of the area when you first came in the restaurant was filled with mostly locals and that's fine. But when we sat down and were ignored for about five minutes I was getting a bit testy. When the waitress came to the table and I was going to order beers I had a question about a couple of beers that I knew nothing about and the waitress just looked at me like you were so stupid, it's a beer what do you want. When I asked her question about the local red beer she rolled her eyes and turned around and just walked away. Several minutes later when she was walking by the table I held up both my arms and went hello and she came over and I said is this the time where I actually get to place an order? She gave me the disgusted FU look and said do you want to order? I said yeah I'd like to order the red beer and she just turned around and started walkway and I said excuse me I have a friend with me and I think he would like a beer as well and she comes back and says so..... I said why think he would probably like this lager and she again just doesn't say anything turns around and walks away. So a few minutes later my friend comes back from the bathroom and she walks up doesn't say a word sets down my beer and turns out walks off. We were going to order food but she just left. So I have several sips of my beer over the next four or five minutes and she is walking by and I said excuse me but my friend still doesn't have his beer and she looks at me and says, well it's coming. In the meantime she delivered at least six or seven beers to the tables all around us and at this point my friend looks at me and goes we're leaving. So we got up and left. I haven't done that in probably 25 years but it was very appropriate. This is absolutely the worst and most certainly most crappy service and attitude I have ever had at a restaurant. Later when I cooled down I called the restaurant and talked to the manager and to her credit she was appalled at what happened. I offered to send her money or give her my credit card to cover the cost of the beer that I never finished and the one that my friend ordered it was never delivered and she said absolutely no way. She was very very sorry and tried to get me to describe the waitress. I gave her the best info I could and I hope she figured out who it was and that she was packing up. Bottom line is give it a shot if you want but I personally would never go back to this restaurant no matter how nice the manager was.

They used to have icy cold mugs of beer here, whenever we got off the plane this was the first stop in Kona the entire family would go to and sadly the family still thinks this is the best place to go after landing in Kona, I strongly dis-agree! The last three times I've gone here for an Icy mug of beer, they were out of them, in fact I don't know if they serve them anymore. Once right after they bought out Atalia's I had an icy- beer there but none since. Twice this last trip the family wanted to go here for a meal and each time I told them I would rather go elsewhere. Hugo's on the Rocks or The Kona Brewery Company, anyplace but here! I did see improvement on customer service but you won't find me here again! Next time if anyone wants to go here after arriving in Kona, I'll say, "Bite me"! Is where I want to go ..... Just next door to Harbor House.

This restaurant is 'hidden' right next to the marina, and we almost went to far! (Don't do this because you'll end up to a hot-dog shack next to a fish shop) What a fantastic selection of items, and very inexpensive for Hawaii. The food was fresh, and came out almost too quickly! Now here's why I removed a star: We were having an early dinner as our flight wasn't until almost midnight. The restaurant is quite large, and open-air, with plenty of seating. We arrived around 4:30 expecting to enjoy some drinks and dinner for a couple hours. (9-3-14) Long story short - we were pretty much badgered into ordering food before being able to finish our first drink. Why would you rush your customers when the place is empty - and not let them relax and enjoy their last evening on Hawaii? If I do go back, and get even the slightest hint that we are being 'hurried' - I'll be asking for a manager.

Sweet view! Perfect spot to grab a bite after being on the boat or in the water in general. Visited Kua Bay Beach and found this place on the road back to downtown Kona. Glad we stopped.....great clam chowder. They don't serve hard liquor but have a nice selection of beers on tap and in a bottle to wet the whistle. Looking forward to the Teriyaki Chicken Salad thats on the way.

This place has the worst service, and rudest employees I have ever come across! Also if you go to YELP you will get a message back that says the business is no longer checking it's messages in case you try to write them as I did. I have nothing good at all to say about this place. They need a zero rating cause that is what this place would get.

We stopped here for a quick beer and some fish and chips. The service was amazing and the waitress was very pleasing and helpful. I ordered the fish and chips and the fried oysters. They tasted very average and it was not as good as I would expect. Great atmosphere and I recommend you give it a try!

We thought we'd grab a bite before our boat trip and the happy hum of people having a good time drew us in. The place was so packed at 3:30pm we had to put our name on a waiting list with two other groups waiting for a table. A very laid back locals place with no hostess; beer flows quickly here. Prices are great and the casually open, harbor setting is very relaxed. The menu is mostly pub type food, but they also offer stir fry and fresh fish options. The food was good and fresh, but what really earns 4 stars is the tables packed with laughing people, hard working fishermen, kids, babies, people walking by tables and visiting with friends. Felt as if we were part of a family. My son loved his bacon burger and fries. I had chicken stir fry and Greg had fresh catch stir fry. We are so glad we stopped in and will be back.

Came back today, I think only because the rest of our family with us wanted some cheap eats. This place is just barely passable so dropping to two stars. My burger today was the worst of my life and I only ate half because I was hungry and I hate to send food back. Meat was very gamey and almost tasted spoiled. Burst of grease at every bite but in a bad way. I love greasy burgers when everything is good quality. They do have good food for kids, which is surprising since this place really is only good for the typical boat people crowd or those looking for cheap cold beer. Unless you've been stuck on a boat all day and just have to eat immediately, skip this place.

Oh man is this spot good! I came here with my wife and grandparents as they live nearby and recommend this place up and down. I was absolutely not let down! I loved how the place is all open and very inviting as a whole. What caught my eye from the get go was the frosted chalices of beer coming out. These things are serious, so of course I ordered one! They don't play around thick heavy glass so your beer stays cold the whole time! At this point I was content and it could have stopped there and I would have been completely satisfied. But then I was told that the special of the day was a calamari steak sandwich, so again with my arm twisted firmly behind my back I ordered it. When it came out it looked like a burger with the exception of a golden brown THICK calamari steak on it. My first instinct was that this calamari steak was going to be over cooked and I might as well be chewing on a tire. Wrong! This calamari steak had to be at least a half inch thick and was cooked to perfection, just a buttery texture that just melted! I will most definitely be back!!!

Great place to stop for a COLD beer. I was craving a hamburger & ordered the mushroom & onion burger, good old fashion juicy burger with fries hit the spot from this great place.

Fresh and fun. Outdoor dining, little birds flying around come and say hello and look for tossed crumbs. Quick service and seating, great burgers and fries. A big schooner of beer and a great view of the harbor. Prices are extremely decent. $

I was so hungry after a long day of traveling. The guy at the car rental place was nice enough to recommend this place. I was happy that it was so close to the airport. I ordered their fried seafood platter that came with shrimp, calamari, and fish. I ordered a side of mac salad and I was loving it! This is big enough to share but I was starving so I ate it by myself. Jon doesn't eat seafood anyways. The service is very laid back meaning that they take their time. I didn't mind it because I just wanted to relax .

Cool local hangout, chill spot, ice cold schooners, great burgers and fresh fish, on the harbor. If eating fish, ask what's local and fresh (the fish n chips is not fresh local fish...it's cod!!!*). It's a great place, could get a 5 star but if u own a restaurant in a harbor that's pulling in fresh fish all day, why serve frozen cod?

    (4)
  • L F.

Waitress (12/23 at 6:30 pm, dark hair in pony tail) was horribly rude. Won't go back. Save your money. Bite me has fresh fish and is nearby.

Had lunch here today with my family. Service was very slow and the quality of the food was not there. My son ordered a Bacon Cheeseburger with a side of fries. He wanted to substitute the regular fries with cheese fries (We would have paid the difference) but was told that they will not put cheese on his fries. Now they do have Cheese Fries on the menu as an appetizer, but for some reason refused to do a substitution when ordered with a burger. We also ordered the Hawaiian Poke (Ahi) and was not impressed with the quality of the fish. Nor were we happy about the quality of the wasabi that was served alongside the poke. I used to love eating here but after today it is unfortunate that we will not be returning anytime soon.

  • Haiyan J.

The poke was really tasty! I like the cole slaw kind of veggies coming with it. For entrees, we ordered fish & veggies and calamari and chips. The fish and seafood are super fresh, even though the taste is good but just nothing surprising. The place is quite nice, with the harbor just below your foot and wind breezing through your hair-a good place to chill. I would probably give it a three star rating, but the service was extremely quick (at the Big Island's standard), friendly and welcoming, so that is the extra star. The location is really convenient, just on spot of the Honokohau small boat harbor. Definitely give it a try and relax yourself after coming back from a cruise/charter.

This is heavily visited by locals as the restaurant is in the harbor itself, all covered but open to the outdoors. They serve giant frosty mugs of beer (schooners) for very little cost. As it is in the harbor, they also have extremely fresh and affordable poke every day. We were told about the place by a local and went twice in our time in HI. If you want a laid back beer and meal just off the Highway, this is a great stop. Note they close at 7 PM as most their business is done at lunch.

This place is just what it should be: basically bar food with fresh fish. A view of the harbor and local brews on tap. I ordered the mahi mahi sandwich. It was delish.

The one star is for the ice cold beer . The food is not great at all. Also the service was terrible our waitress helped us in the beginning when she saw I had sushi she told me I couldn't eat it there even though we ordered food and rounds of drinks . Then she got off her shift and no one helped us for over an hour . The next waitress was sweet and said omg I want that sushi too and had no problem with it being there . I had only brought it out because I did not want it to get hot in the car . The food we did order was greasy , and mediocre . If you want to drink beer go there for that . But if your hungry keep looking . I was thankful I did buy that sushi so I could actually eat something delicious instead of greasy over priced and tasteless .

Was here twice once after a whale watch and once on way to airport. Both times the food and service was good. It is an open air Marina bar restaurant so very casual. Wide variety menu but my wife and I just had sandwiches. I like the casual atmosphere and watching the comings and goings of the marina.

  • Nat W.

The server was nice and attentive. I ordered the today's fish: grilled ahi, which was too dry. My mom ordered seared ahi poke salad, which came out a little more cooked than seared...tasted almost like meat because it was so fatty but tasty. Their food is okay. The parking could be a pain depending on time.

Good place to drink cheap beer. Bad place to eat. Food is horrible, my hamburger tasted like fish! Not again. Two stars only for the cheap beer.

    (2)
  • Patrick L.

A bit hard to find but reasonably priced food, ice cold schooners of adult beverages, and a laid back attitude. The fish and chips they served had the freshest fish I've ever tasted in a fish and chips meal. Lightly battered so the fish really comes through. Great little spot.

Unfortunately, as a local, I will never step foot in this place again. We came a few days ago after a snorkeling adventure on a hot day. I normally frequent Bite Me, but thought I would try something new. Bad idea. Beers were fine. Service was terrible. We only spoke to our waitress when we had to flag her down for condiments, and then for the bill. Otherwise, she never checked in with us. The food itself was mediocre: we had to ask for hot sauce for the hot wings, the calamari could have been from the frozen foods section of a grocery store (and only served with ketchup...yuck!), and the ahi belly special of the day was way too over cooked. What a waste of a usually delicious speciality! I recommend walking a few feet more to Bite Me Grill where the food is a hundred times better. Try Bite Me's Smoked Fish Dip. Yum. But avoid the Harbor House when in the area.

We went out on a Captain Zodiac snorkeling trip and came back around noon feeling hungry and thirsty. Nice open air restaurant. Quick wait service. Enjoyed a local beer and some sushi for appetizer. I had the fish of the day with rice. Excellent! Daughters enjoyed mac and cheese.

Serve icy cold beer and I am always a fan, pair it with some poke and call it paradise. The burgers are good, but the fresh fish is your best bet. Avoid the fish and chips, it is not local caught and there are better places to get it. Kids meal could use some improvements too.

Fish, Beer, Schooners, Harbor, Open Air, Quick Service. Just walk in and grab a table, server will come to you shortly. It's an open air restaurant/bar on the harbor, mix of fishermen, locals, tourists. Food is decent with a variety of seafood. Beer is cheap and served in schooners. Service is good. Prices are reasonable. Atmosphere is mature and chill. Better restaurant for adults than for those with little ones.

For me, Harbor House has always been about the beer.....the ice cold schooners of ice cold beer which is what they are known for. But, the last 2 trips there (Nov. 2014) have been disappointing. The first resulted in a 10 minute wait for a waitress (and it was SLOW); then 2 schooners that were not cold and the beer equally not cold. Waitress attitude sucked big time. We watched 3 local dudes come in minutes after us, but who sat right at the edge of the waitress station tables. The waitress was there literally in seconds---flirting and flaunting. Granted, I was a waitress in my youth, and I flirted and flaunted, but I never ignored my other customers no matter their ages. We left without even finishing the beer.............. Second Nov. trip there (today, 11/23): this time we sat in the bar thinking the beer and schooner might be colder? We asked the waitress if the schooners and beer were very cold and she quickly said the schooners and beer are colder in the restaurant.....where we sat last week. We told her about the uncold beer and schooners......and she said.........."..other people don't complain; we're the cheapest beer in town". That's verbatim! I guess we're suppose to drink warm beer because it's the cheapest in town? In my youth, I literally trained hundreds of waitresses......had this gal been one of my waitresses, I'd a handed her her last pay check and sent her back to remedial training at McDonalds. The schooners and beer were colder, tho not up to Harbor House historical standards. We left, went to Bite Me (next door); had some great cold beer (tho no schooners), a farrr better view, and a great dinner ---- all provided by a very very sweet and professional waitress and staff...... Likely won't be returning to HH until they fix their problems.....and the food there has never been that great anyway....just ordinary food.

Very close to the airport. Not so many fresh fish offerings. {The Bite Me Fish Market (next door) may have more.} Good Catch of the Day (spearfish); juicy, tender deep-fried cod. Indoor seating.

  • Aaron M.

I've come to terms with Harbor House. Their fish and chips still suck. But if you stick to poke and beer, it is really good. I like hanging out here, love the chilled goblets, and as long as you clarify that the fish is actually fresh, it is good.

  • Greg B.

Great atmosphere. Right on the harbor and recommended by locals. Best place for a beer in Kona.

    (4)
  • Sarah H.

Menu limited, food good but not exceptional, service variable depending on time of day you arrive. But really, none of that matters. If you're not here for the BEER, you're at the wrong restaurant. The whole POINT of this place is the schooners. We're talking ICE COLD (like, a layer of ice on top of your beverage) super-frozen enormous glasses holding the most highly-chilled brews possibly in the world. SCHOONERS. BEER. That is the point, and no one does this better.

    (4)
  • Jonathan L.

Wow, I was recommended this place by the rental car company. My wife really wanted seafood, and she loved it. I got my hamburger, which was juicy and well done, was great. Pros: Food, location, environment, and price. Cons: You have to travel to Hawaii to eat here! For the both of us it was $31.72. It included drinks and taxes. For what we ordered it was priced fair, I thought it was going to be more. This place is a must for those visiting!

Stopped in for a bit of lunch after jumping off The End of The World. I knew I was going to like this place when our waitress brought my Kona Big Wave beer in a goblet. An ice cold heavy glass goblet. Yes a goblet! Who serves beer in a goblet? This place does and I love it. I'm sure your thinking that I'm just a dummy because it's really called a schooner, but suck it - it's a goblet and I'm sticking with that. I ordered the chili burger and it was good. The price was reasonable and the service was excellent (and cute). Never hurts a place to have cute waitresses. The restaurant sits right next to the marina so you have a nice view of the boats. The only problem with this is the flies and birds hang out with you. And as you probably know they aren't there for the view. All in all it's a place I plan to return to either on this trip or the next.

  • Barbara H.

Love this place. Great Calamari and chips, fresh fish sandwich or fresh fish on a bed of lettuce, great burgers, I love the edamame and poke. Don't forget the beer! Ice cold frosty mug -18 oz Schooner - can't beat it! It's a very casual, low key, open dinning area, where you feel the tropical breeze and watch the boats come into the harbor. Be prepared to slow down while you're there....it's local!

  • Charles L.

We stumbled across this place....best fish and chips I have ever had! Poke was excellent. My wife ordered their fish of the day and she still talks about how wonderful it was....if we are ever in the area again we will definitely find our way there at least a couple of times!

    (5)
  • Marti A.

Yup - this place is basically a dive and hangout for locals... but it's a wonderful stop for lunch after landing at KOA. You want a cheeseburger in paradise? This is the spot. Their fresh ono sandwiches are also good and order an ice cold schooner (or two) of beer to go with your meal. Great place to unwind from the rush of travel and soak in the ambiance of being back in Kona before stocking up at Costco.

    (4)
  • Jessica A.

A good place for a quick bite at lunch. I had the grilled fish sandwich and fries and was happy with my selection. Both were fresh and hot, not a ton of seasoning, but I jazzed it up with some mustard and ketchup. It hit the spot after a long morning flight to Kona from the Bay Area!

SECOND BEST BURGER! Very Cold Beer and oh yeah it's in Kona! Spent a couple of weeks here over Thanksgiving holiday and stumbled on this place after my buddy landed a 40+ lbs tuna. We ate tuna until I thought I was going to grow fins. However, the HH saved the day with good ole red meat - granted hooped up with some teriyaki pineapple stuff.

We went here for lunch. Parking is a little bit of a problem but we did find one. I ate the Jr clubhouse and my daughter ate the garden burger. They were both very good. To me the fries were really good. It is basically seat yourself kinda place. I would have givin 5 stars if the service was a little better. I can't stand when your water is empty and the server asks if you would like anything else. Would have been better if they said would you like more water.

  • J M.

We went to the Harbor House recently. You can't beat the views of the harbor, and open air feeling, and the casualness, is really nice. The beer is nice and cold, however, it was almost flat, perhaps, due to the carbon flow in the hoses. The manager should check it. For food, it's best to stay with a hamburger and fries, as anything past that, it's definitely taking 'a chance'. If you desire great service, and attentiveness, this may not be the place to go. Again, if you're not in a hurry, want a cold schooner, and a snack, check it out, as that's what we'll do next time.

  • David E.

I had heard from an interesting gentleman we talked that this was a good place to go to. We tried it out after a day at the beach near the marina but ended up having a drink then leaving. Even though it was nbot very busy, the service was very slow.... We decided to get a drink and leave.

Perfect place for a frosty schooner of beer, watch the game or chat with the locals after work. The burgers and fries are 'ono as well. Setting is local, on the pier and no frills. Nice place to kill time before flying out. Flies can make things bothersome.

Came here to grab some grub before a snorkel. Love the openness. Very casual. Out on the harbor. We split a BLT and had some sodas. No complaints. Would have loved to come back afterward for some beers, but we had a long drive that we wanted to get out of the way. Wish there was a cool hangout place like this in our neck of the woods.

Always our first stop after landing! Catch of the day is what I always get, always fresh and grilled to perfection! My husband gets fish and chips in a light panko breading. Best seafood and at the best price. Been going here for years and always great! The $3 icy schooner of beer cant be beat!

The food was downright bad, especially for vegetarians. I ordered the veggie stirfry with tofu. It consisted of onions, celery, and green pepper, and it wasn't even hot. The tofu wasn't prepared, just cut up and thrown in. My brother got catch of the day and he said it was pretty good. The service wasn't terrible, but nothing stood out. Everything was overpriced for what it was.

After our aerial flight, our pilot suggested we check this place out since it was close to the airport and served decent food. I had the poke which was tolerable. It had the right amount of soy sauce but the fish was of lesser quality than expected, given the fact that we WERE @ a harbor. The atmosphere was ideal on a warm afternoon. The dining room is open air allowing gentle breezes to waft through. The prices were moderate and the service was also mediocre.

This place is right on the water. It is outdoor covered seating - the only problem with this is all of the flies. They were everywhere, and made the dining experience not as pleasant. My parents & I all ordered the fish & chips. I substituted macaroni salad for the chips though. Our order came out within 5 minutes of us ordering. The fish was good, but it was a bit more dark brown than golden brown. My Dad said it was probably because the oil was not hot enough, making the fish oilier & darker than it probably should have been. I still thought it tasted pretty good, but they don't give you enough tartar sauce, in my opinion.. The macaroni salad was good, not great. It had celery in it, so I wasn't too stoked on that. All in all, this was pretty good. I would probably go back, even though my Mom got sick after we ate here. (I didn't though.)

Fly fest! This place sits right on Honokeana Harbor and although that may sound romantic or relaxing I find it extremely difficult to even get through a meal having to constantly wave two hands frantically around the table to keep out the swarms of flies! Meanwhile as you are keeping them off your food they are crawling up and down your legs and all over your kid. gross. Anyways, if that doesn't bother you this place is great for a cheap snack and ice cold draft. They serve extra large frozen schooners with a good variety of draft beers. The menu is fairly extensive as well ranging from appetizers, soups, salads, chili, sandwiches, hot dogs, burgers, fish, and a few entrees. The food is so so, but you get what you pay for. Last time I went here i had chicken strips and fries. The chicken was either fried and re-fried, or fried in old oil because the breaded crust was hard as lava rock, but the chicken inside was still ok and juicy. the fries came out cold and soggy but i wasn't all that hungry anyways so i just drank my beer and let the server take the food away. she didn't even ask if I liked it or why i hadn't eaten any of it and didn't want to take it home but whatever. Well, I rest my case. You make the choice.

Great place to go right after a long day at the beach.... Tons of fishermen hang out here.. Well duh, I prob didnt need to point that out since it is at the harbor. My fave thing is the Harbor's HUUUUUGE beer they serve in a goblet. It's the perfect coldness, and somehow it just tastes better in a goblet. Don't want to comment too much on the food because I haven't had anything that was really ono. At the same time, haven't had anything gross either. After a long, hot day this open air haven with a great view, this place is awesome.

If you like value, this is the place. Beer is always cold and the fish and chips were SOLID - perfectly fried and great fish! This is the kinda place where you can stop on your way home everyday after work. Wait a minute... no one works in "Paradise" aka Hawaii!

Nice view over the harbor... Best thing is their frosted schooners of beer and the service is friendly. Food is so so at best. If you are hungry you'll have better luck next door at Bite Me.

I'd recommend a Schooner and a Philly Cheese Steak. This little local pub wont impress the snobs but it'll make the ordinary Joe happy. Sit on the bar side if you want to hear all the captains talk about their latest fishing adventures. Although I like the family side of the place better. The waitresses are friendly and the beer is really cold. Like i said, they aren't known for fine dinning but it's Poke is to die for. This is a place I take everyone straight from the airport. It fills your stomach without emptying your wallet

A great location over looking the harbor but the food is average. Also there are lots of birds and flies you get to share your lunch with. The best thing going is there cheap cold schooners of beer.

Can't recommend this place. Good points: The calamari was great and well worth it. View of the harbor is nice near sunset. Bad points: The poke was just raw ahi with cabbage. No limu, little flavor. No free refills on soft drinks or lemonade? Our entire table area was infested by flies. We spent half the meal dealing with the flies. Flies were landing on all the plates as they were leaving the kitchen as well. It's a little disturbing to see flies feasting on the plates as they leave the kitchen before they get to the patrons. I assume the servers dispatch the flies before the dishes are served. Is it better that the customers don't know flies were enjoying their meals 30 seconds prior to delivery? Meal was $70 for 4 people not including drinks. For a place with dirty plastic chairs, a sticky table, and attack of the flies, that price is far too high. Bottom line: Great for a beer and calamari after a boat tour or fishing. Not so good for a meal.

This is a must!!! The best Fresh Catch dishes on the island. Fish and Chips are to die for. Shrimp Baasket and Calimary Basket as well. Very well priced quite lower than the other restaurants. Service Five Stars!!!!!

Best fish sandos in Kona! Get the Ono if they have it that day. It's my favorite. Its kind of like a dive bar on one end of the restaurant where a lot of the fisherman hang out drinking beers and watching the games on TV. The other side is super casual seating. Its all open so there's always a nice breeze blowing through. It's not very publicized so if you're just visiting you may never even hear about it. It's down in the Harbor so if you take a fishing trip or dive trip leaving from the harbor, you should it up the Harbor House on your way back in.

Absolutely love this place and come here whenever I am in town to grab a cheeseburger and beer. Their schooners of domestic beer are only $3 bucks and imports/craft beers (Kona brew, Pacifico, etc.) are only $4.50 and super ice cold! The Cheeseburger and fry is only $7.95, always seasoned perfectly and served hot! It's definitely the best bang for your buck. And to top it off the service is killer. Everyone is laid back and super sweet! It's also a totally relaxing/casual environment (I'm usually always still in swimsuit and shorts with sand on my feet. It's a must when in Kona!

I have no idea how this place has any stars at all.. Oh wait yes I do "location, location, location". Seriously if this place wasn't positioned perfectly with an open atmosphere right on the harbor there is no way it would stay open. The food was unbelievably bad and tasted as though it was cooked via a microwave in the back. I got the "fresh catch" which was Ahi but it tasted like it was reheated and was so disappointing. All the food was very lackluster for everyone in my family and although the view and breeze flowing through the restaurant was nice, I would never in a million years recommend this place. Besides the food, they only serve beer and wine even though they have what looks to be a full bar. Even the beer and wine they had was so sub par it was infuriating! Also, the service was horrible! Our waitress came over twice and both times we had to ask her to come over to us. Someone else brought us our food, another brought the check, another filled our drinks (all when we specifically asked). It was kind of amazing actually so have food and service so bad in such a beautiful setting. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. Honestly I really wish we could have gotten our money back it was so disappointing.

Arrive 6:45 party of four, plus one sleeping infant. All's well but then they warn us that kitchen closes at 7:00 pm. We order $130 worth of food in one minute. Check arrives almost with food, and at 7:30 they start turning out the lights and then FLASHING the lights at us. We leave in darkness and a small tip (9%). We realize we don't have our car keys. We definitely left them on the table. We looked everywhere. Finally with the help of the two remaining employees they find the keys over the balcony from where we were sitting, in the garden, close to the marina. There's no way they could have got there without the employees having thrown them. (Before we left the premises we'd heard a loud "I don't give a s__t." (That's actually what made us think, wait a second, where are our car keys?) I mean really, all we did was come (unknowingly) a little before they closed -- they could have warned us from the beginning that we had 1/2 hour before they started flashing the lights and throwing our car keys in the planter.

Read reviews before going. Do not go for a meal, go for a beer. Nothing beats a super ice cold schooner (18oz frosty mug) while watching the sunset. Get there early, as they close at 7. Grab a schooner and some pupus (I like the calamari and sometimes the poke) If you go knowing what to get, and want to enjoy the sunset at the harbor, you will have a great time.

Even though the food at Harbor House is average at best I have been here 3 or 4 times because my group of friends likes to meet up here for food and beers. Honestly, I would never come here except that it is a nice place for a large group to meet up and hang out. I've had the chili burger, fried calamari, fish sandwich and all were mediocre. They have a decent beer selection on tap and I enjoy being outside in the shade at the harbor. If you're looking for a nice setting (near the airport) to enjoy a cold one, then this place is OK. Just don't expect good food, it's edible, but low quality.

I've come to terms with Harbor House. Their fish and chips still suck. But if you stick to poke and beer, it is really good. I like hanging out here, love the chilled goblets, and as long as you clarify that the fish is actually fresh, it is good.

Great atmosphere. Right on the harbor and recommended by locals. Best place for a beer in Kona.

We stumbled across this place....best fish and chips I have ever had! Poke was excellent. My wife ordered their fish of the day and she still talks about how wonderful it was....if we are ever in the area again we will definitely find our way there at least a couple of times!

Whenever I go home we have lunch at the Harbor House after I land at KOA. My parents love the fish and chips and I always get the veggie stir fry. Good place to sit and watch the harbor with a nice breeze. When I ate meat I loved their burgers and fries. After a long flight it's better than driving into town from the airport. :)

I visited this place for beer, not food. The beers are HUGE. Definitely a great place to visit on a hot day! Great beers on tap. It's right next to the harbor, with a great view.
